Types of Gearboxes for Mining Application
Excavator Gearbox
Mining excavators use two main gearbox types. Swing gearboxes control the rotating upper structure and handle loads up to 500 tons. Travel gearboxes power the tracks and manage speeds from 0.5 to 3.5 kilometers per hour.
The gearbox sits between the diesel engine and the hydraulic pump system. It reduces the engine’s 2,000 RPM output to around 100-200 RPM for the hydraulic pumps. This reduction provides the force needed to move 20-ton buckets through solid rock.
Ribbon Mixer Gearbox
Vertical mounted bevel helical gearbox designed for ribbon mixer and ribbon blender applications. This Flender equivalent gearbox delivers high torque output with a compact footprint, featuring cast iron housing, case-hardened alloy steel gears, and tapered roller bearings for reliable continuous operation. Crusher Gearbox
Crusher gearboxes generate the extreme forces needed to break rock into smaller pieces. Primary crushers use gearboxes with reduction ratios up to 100:1 to create crushing forces exceeding 1,000 tons.
These gearboxes feature reinforced helical gears that distribute loads across multiple teeth. The design handles shock loads 3 times the normal operating force when oversized rocks enter the crusher.
Hoist and Winch Gearbox
Mine hoists use specialized gearboxes to lift personnel and materials through vertical shafts. These systems manage loads from 10 to 50 tons at speeds up to 20 meters per second.
The gearbox incorporates multiple safety features including dual braking systems and overspeed governors. Planetary configurations provide compact designs that fit within headframe space constraints. Emergency brake mechanisms engage automatically if power fails.
Bucket Elevator Gearbox
TANHON B3SH7-63-A bevel helical gearbox delivers 50kW power and 25.5kN.m torque for demanding bucket elevator applications. This Flender-equivalent unit features integrated cooling fan technology, boosting heat capacity from 49.7kW to 65.1kW for continuous operation.
Every component receives C5-class corrosion treatment, ensuring reliable performance in harsh industrial environments. Complete with cooling fan and drain valve for simplified maintenance.
Mining Grinding Mill Gearbox
Mining grinding mills require specialized gearboxes to process ore through various grinding stages with maximum efficiency. These systems operate continuously in dusty, high-vibration environments while maintaining precise speed control for optimal particle size reduction.
Grinding mill gearboxes handle massive rotating loads while reducing motor speeds from 1,000-1,800 RPM down to 12-30 RPM for different mill types. The gearbox must absorb shock loads from ore impacts and maintain consistent torque delivery during varying material hardness conditions.
